I have had a few publishing successes lately with several short stories finding homes, and even winning a new bid for a major project coming up, so I thought it would make a good topic for a new blog.
First off, the one success that I wrote about last time the short story "Rabbit Holes" is now out in the anthology, Rebels, and (obviously from the photo) in hand. The dystopian fantasy story involves a young girl about to graduate high school who needs to choose her future from a field of rabbit holes. It was published by Inkd Publishing and is available from Barnes and Noble here.
Then I sold a flash fiction story, "The Crack in the Door," to Teach. Write. which is a publication I have been published in several times before. The publisher, Katie Winkler, even sent me a brief message, stating she would like me to submit to her more frequently. I will have to take her up on that offer. It was a story where I drew on some childhood trauma experiences to write and involves a character gazing upon an old, abandoned house. It can be found online for free here.
Next, my short story "The Lady in White" was picked up by the young adult Anthology Teen Screams, Volume 1 by Dark Moon Rising Publications. The story incorporates several local legends around my hometown, Erie, Pennsylvania, including Ax Murder Hollow, Gudgeonville Bridge, and the title. This story was also based on a real life experience I had when a few friends and I went driving around those old legends while listening to a radio show about those very legends. The anthology is out now and there are links to them on the publisher's website here.
Additionally, one more short story, "Architeuthis Orca (Squid Whale)," will be published in the Tales and Terrors Newsletter in June edited by PD Avella on Substack. It's about a sleazy movie director filming about the title character. It was inspired by filmmaker Roger Corman, who was never as sleazy in real life as the director in this story. It is not out at the time of this writing, but will be soon.
Finally, I appeared in a cosmic indie horror / science fiction movie called The Others: Doom from the Stars, and I have been selected to write the novelization. It is from Blood Pact Films and Spooky Ventures, the latter of which is run by Gary Will. I appear in a small but prominent role as a military figure attacking the being trying to destroy the Earth. You can learn more about the film from Blood Pact Films's website here, and you can learn more about Spooky Ventures from their website here.
That's about it for now. I will be kept pretty busy working on that movie novelization, so I had better get back to work.
